PVTflex is a petroleum fluid-properties and phase-behavior modeling application developed by Weatherford. It helps reservoir, production, and process engineers characterize hydrocarbon fluids, tune equations of state, and predict fluid behavior across pressure, temperature, and compositional changes. The software streamlines the creation of high‑quality PVT datasets and tables for use in reservoir simulation, production modeling, and surface-facilities design.

Key capabilities:

  • Data handling and QC: Import, reconcile, and validate laboratory and field PVT data, including CCE, CVD, differential liberation, separator tests, and recombination data. Manage units and perform consistency checks.
  • EOS modeling and tuning: Build compositional fluid models using standard equations of state (e.g., Peng–Robinson, SRK). Perform component lumping/splitting, apply volume shifts, and regress against lab measurements to improve model fidelity.
  • Phase-behavior predictions: Generate phase envelopes; calculate bubble/dew points, flash equilibria, retrograde behavior, Z‑factor, formation‑volume factors, solution GOR, compressibility, density, and viscosity across operating conditions.
  • Black‑oil and compositional outputs: Produce PVT tables and correlations suitable for compositional and black‑oil simulators, multiphase flow models, and facility design tools. Export results in commonly used formats.
  • Surface and processing workflows: Evaluate separator-train performance, shrinkage factors, and stock‑tank properties; assess recombination strategies and surface operating conditions.
  • EOR and injection screening: Analyze gas‑injection scenarios (e.g., CO2, N2, hydrocarbon gas), estimate MMP, and interpret swelling and slim‑tube test data where applicable.
  • Reporting and traceability: Create repeatable workflows with audit trails, standardized templates, and clear, publishable PVT reports.

Who it’s for:

  • Reservoir, production, and process engineers; lab specialists; and simulation teams needing reliable, physics‑based PVT models for field development, optimization, and forecasting.

Typical use cases:

  • Building tuned EOS models from lab and field data
  • Generating simulator‑ready PVT tables for black‑oil or compositional studies
  • Evaluating separator configurations and surface conditions
  • Screening and planning gas‑injection and EOR programs

Benefits:

  • Reduces uncertainty in fluid characterization and forecasts
  • Speeds up PVT analysis with consistent, repeatable workflows
  • Enhances integration between lab data, field measurements, and modeling tools
